Legionella Monitoring & Control

Legionella Risk Assessment - Legionella Control

Health & Safety Executive HSE Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L8 )

A key component of ACoP L8 – The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems, is that after a Legionella Risk Assessment is completed a written monitoring plan to control the identified risks of Legionella is prepared.

A water monitoring plan will identify the chosen control measure and how this will be actioned and implemented. It will also evaluate how often the system should be managed and monitored.  A detailed record of all precautions and recommendations should be contained in a dedicated site logbook.

How JN Environmental Monitor Water Systems

JN Environmental provide an online system log book which is used to store the records of legionella control monitoring tasks carried out, this includes;

  • Weekly flushing of little-used outlets
  • Monthly temperature test results of representative outlets
  • Quarterly descaling of shower heads and spray taps
  • Annual inspection of calorifiers
  • Annual water storage tank inspection
  • 24 monthly legionella risk assessment review
  • An Engineer will visit the site at regular intervals to ensure that risks are kept in chck.
  • Temperatures and conditions will be compared with parameters detailed in ACOP L8.

Water Monitoring Plan

A water monitoring plan will identify the chosen control measure e.g. avoiding water temperatures between 20ºC and 45ºC and how it will be achieved.

A Monitoring Plan should be closely adhered to and actions should be implemented, regularly managed and monitored.
